Our experience over the years
Pandeli Gliozheni
The “Gliozheni” Clinic has a long history of medical activity. It was first established in Korça in 1905, when doctor Pandeli Gliozheni opened a clinic for the treatment of internal diseases and ophthalmological conditions.
Pandeli had completed his higher medical studies in Athens and specialized in Paris. He was one of the few doctors in the city of Korça at that time, known for his excellent reputation.
Koço Gliozheni
This clinic was later inherited by his son, Dr. Koço Gliozheni, who had completed his medical studies and specialization in surgery and obstetrics-gynecology at the University of Athens. He initially worked as a surgeon at the hospital in Korça, as well as alongside his father at the clinic, and later on independently as a general practitioner, surgeon, and gynecologist.
In 1949, Koço Gliozheni moved to Tirana, and in 1951 he was appointed Director of the University Obstetric-Gynecological Hospital of Tirana. In addition to his work as a gynecologist at this institution, he opened his own clinic in 1951 (“Gliozheni Clinic”), which became one of the most renowned and frequented medical facilities in Tirana at the time, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology.
With the establishment of the University of Tirana in 1957, Koço Gliozheni was appointed Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a position he held until his retirement in 1989. In 1958, he was awarded the title of “Professor,” becoming one of the first seven professors in Albania. The clinic was closed in the early 1960s as a result of the communist government’s decision to ban private medical practice in Albania.
Prof. Dr. Orion Gliozheni
“Gliozheni Clinic” was reopened in 1992 by Dr. Orion Gliozheni, the son of Koço and grandson of Pandeli. He had just returned from his specialization in obstetrics and gynecology in Paris. His return coincided with the establishment of a democratic system, which once again allowed private healthcare activity. Since then, “Gliozheni Clinic” has contributed for about 32 years to the diagnosis and treatment of obstetrical and gynecological pathologies, as well as in the field of couple infertility in Albania.
In 2003, under the leadership of Prof. Orion Gliozheni, the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF-ET) was performed for the first time in Albania. Today, more than 2,000 children have been born using these methods as a result of the clinic’s work, bringing to these couples the greatest happiness of their lives—the joy of becoming parents.
Klinika “Gliozheni” Sot
At the beginning of 2016, the clinic moved to a new and modern facility in Tirana. Today, “Klinika Gliozheni” is one of the most comprehensive and well-known private structures in Albania, specializing in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology, and couple infertility.
It includes a team of doctors who have worked in this specialty for many years and especially in the field of diagnosis and treatment of couple infertility. The team also consists of many gynecologists and other specialists who, through consultations, guide and advise their patients there, influencing decision-making and therapeutic strategies. The clinic also has modern equipment and technology, which undoubtedly contribute to the excellent results in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
